Why Mongkol

What a specialist workshop offers that a general shop cannot.

Mechanical watchwork is its own discipline. The benefits of choosing a dedicated workshop show in the details — and in the longevity of the result.

At a Glance

Six reasons clients choose Mongkol

Specialist Expertise

Eighteen years focused solely on mechanical watches — automatics, hand-wound movements, and vintage calibres requiring sourced parts and patient disassembly.

In-House Work Only

Your watch stays within our workshop from intake to collection. We never forward work to third parties, keeping accountability clear and your piece secure throughout.

Written Documentation

A service record accompanies every completed watch — parts renewed, timing measurements taken, observations noted. Something to keep alongside the timepiece itself.

No Surprises Policy

If something unexpected is found, we pause and discuss it with you. The scope of work only changes with your knowledge and agreement — never unilaterally.

Vintage Movement Familiarity

We maintain technical documentation for calibres spanning decades and a sourcing network for parts no longer in production — essential for inherited or collector pieces.

Transparent Pricing

Three clear service tiers with published prices in Thai Baht. The only additions are discussed with you first — no invoice surprises on collection day.

In More Detail

Professional Expertise

Est. 2006 · Chiang Mai

Our lead watchmaker trained under a Swiss-certified technician in Bangkok before returning to Chiang Mai. The methods he brought back — methodical disassembly, individual part inspection, multi-position timing — remain the standard we work to today.

  • Comfortable with calibres from the 1940s onward
  • Exposure to Swiss, Japanese, and German movements
  • Continuing technical education through industry literature

Tools & Process

Dedicated watchmaking equipment

Our workshop holds ultrasonic cleaning equipment maintained for watchwork specifically, timing machines for regulation across positions, and a humidity-controlled storage area. None of these are shared with general repair work.

  • Ultrasonic cleaning for movement parts
  • Timing tested dial-up, dial-down, and crown-up
  • Humidity-managed piece storage

Client Experience

Unhurried and informed

Clients who visit the workshop in person often remark that the conversation before the service is as useful as the service itself. We make time to look at a watch properly, explain what we observe, and discuss options without pressure.

  • Walk-in assessment welcome Monday–Saturday
  • Updates provided mid-service if needed
  • Written care notes included at no extra charge

Value & Pricing

Stated rates, no additions without discussion

Prices for all three service tiers are published and reflect the actual work involved. The Refresh & Lubrication at ฿4,700 serves watches that need light attention; the Complete Overhaul at ฿9,900 addresses movements requiring full disassembly; the Fine Restoration at ฿14,000 extends to case, dial, and hands work.

  • Prices inclusive of standard parts (mainspring, gaskets)
  • Special parts discussed and quoted separately
  • No obligation to proceed after initial assessment

Outcomes

What to expect when you collect

A watch that has been through a Mongkol service should run reliably and within a reasonable rate for its calibre. We regulate to the movement's design specification — not to a universal standard — and note the achieved timing figures in the service document.

  • Timing figures documented for your records
  • Care guidance for the service interval ahead
  • Follow-up questions welcomed after collection

What Sets Us Apart

Distinctive aspects of Mongkol's approach

Parts Library & Sourcing Network

We maintain a reference library of technical drawings and a regional parts network built over 18 years — particularly valuable for calibres no longer commercially supported.

Assessment Before Commitment

The initial assessment visit carries no obligation. We look at your watch, explain what we observe, and let you decide how — and whether — to proceed. No pressure is applied.

Finish Conversation Before Case Work

For restoration services, we discuss your preferences for the case finish — whether to preserve patina or renew the surface — before any polishing or refinishing begins.

Calibre-Specific Regulation

We regulate movements to the specification of each calibre, not to a generic industry average. This distinction matters in achieving the rate a movement was designed to keep.
