Why Mongkol

Craftsmanship without shortcuts

Patient Assessment

Before any work begins, we examine your piece carefully and discuss what the watch actually needs — so nothing unnecessary is undertaken.

Written Record

Each watch leaves with a written summary of work performed and care suggestions — a record you can refer to for years ahead.

Vintage Familiarity

We are comfortable with older calibres — the kinds of movements that require patience, sourced parts, and an understanding of how they were originally finished.

Respectful Handling

Watches entrusted to us are handled as personal possessions, not as throughput. They stay in our workshop and are not sub-contracted out.

Clear Communication

We keep you informed at every stage. If something unexpected is found mid-service, we discuss it with you before proceeding.

Chiang Mai Workshop

Located on Ratchadamnoen Road in Si Phum — accessible, unhurried, and happy to welcome walk-ins for a preliminary conversation about your timepiece.

A note from the workshop

"A watch that has been worn for decades carries something more than mechanical function. The way we approach each piece is shaped by that understanding — we work carefully, we ask questions, and we try to return what you brought us in better condition than we found it, without altering what made it yours."

Questions

Frequently Asked

How do I know which service my watch needs? +
You don't need to know in advance. Bring or send the watch to us and we will assess its condition — examining the movement's running quality, the case, and any visible wear. We then share our findings and suggest the most appropriate path, with no pressure to proceed.
Can you work on vintage or older movements? +
Yes — older calibres are something we approach with particular care. Many parts can no longer be ordered new; when needed, we source period-correct components or fabricate replacements to maintain the watch's original character. We are transparent about this before work begins.
What are the typical turnaround times? +
A Refresh & Lubrication service typically takes under two weeks. A Complete Overhaul runs three to four weeks. The Fine Restoration, which involves careful case and dial work in addition to the full movement overhaul, takes five to eight weeks. We share a more precise estimate once we have assessed your specific watch.
Will the original finish be preserved during restoration? +
We discuss finish preferences with you before we begin any case work. Some owners want the patina of age maintained; others prefer a renewed surface. We are comfortable with both approaches and will only proceed once we understand what you value most in the watch's appearance.
Is pricing fixed or does it change after assessment? +
The listed service prices reflect typical work. If we discover additional complexity — unusual parts, more extensive wear than visible externally — we will inform you and discuss costs before continuing. Nothing changes without your knowledge and agreement.
Can I visit the workshop in person? +
Yes. We welcome visitors at 134 Ratchadamnoen Road, Si Phum, Chiang Mai. If you would like to discuss your watch before committing to a service, a brief walk-in conversation is always welcome. Our working hours are Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 18:00.
